Armenia, Colombia Earthquake, January 1999
During the Colombia earthquake, we were there setting up our South American post when the 6.8 hit in Armenia. After rescuing that night, we returned back to the Honduras project. After returning to the states, we raised funds for supplies that were sent to Columbia. Exploding buildings killed countless people. Bricks traveled through buses full of people. Many were killed by flying debris. At the main site, only a few lived untold numbers were found alive through the night. Injuries were more common than not. Blood stained masonry is the picture that sticks in our minds.
